After matching on Hinge, we spent a few days exchanging funny, slightly unhinged (but charming) banter before Dustin finally asked Cassie for her phone number to plan a date. To really cover his bases, he also asked for her Instagram. Cassie handed both over, got the Instagram follow request… and then, nothing. Absolute silence. Not a single text.

Naturally, Cassie found it a little suspicious that someone would ask for a phone number with zero intention of using it, but she shrugged it off and moved on.

Fast forward about two months of casually following each other on Instagram. Dustin posted a story of his adorable niece, and Cassie replied to say so. Dustin responded immediately… but not about his niece. Instead, he asked why she had never texted him back.

Confused, Cassie replied, “You never texted me??”

Dustin insisted he had texted multiple times and had been completely ignored. At this point, it sounded a lot like a creative cover story, so Cassie asked for proof. And to his credit, Dustin delivered: screenshots of two separate attempts to text… the wrong phone number.

At first, it sounded a little unbelievable. But after getting to know Dustin’s carefree, slightly chaotic, and very goofy personality, it actually makes perfect sense!

Once the correct numbers were finally exchanged, a first date was planned—and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Turns out, when you combine two equally goofy personalities that somehow balance each other perfectly, you get something pretty special!
